Academic Programs at Tech
There are numerous opportunities to take courses and pursue research in transportation at Georgia Tech. Our core transportation group in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering includes ten faculty members. The research interests of the faculty are quite broad and span asset/infrastructure management, sustainability planning, air quality and emissions modeling, environmental policy analysis, environmental impact analysis, energy and climate change impacts on transportation, transportation planning, traffic engineering and design, traffic simulation, traffic flow theory, travel demand and traveler behavior modeling, multimodal transportation planning and analysis, transit planning, freight and passenger demand and supply modeling, energy efficient urban form, and institutional analysis and project implementation. Dr. James Tsai, an affiliate of the transportation systems group who is based at our Georgia Tech Savannah campus, provides additional transportation coverage in GPS/GIS applications, pavement engineering and management, and image processing and recognition.
The diversity and strength of our core transportation faculty is further complemented by transportation-related courses and faculty in other departments. Combined, these programs provide our students with a unique opportunity to specialize in many areas.
Links to the primary academic programs at Tech include the following:
- School of Civil and Environmental Engineering – Transportation Systems Engineering
- City and Regional Planning Program
- School of Economics (transportation economics/discrete choice analysis)
- School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (logistics/optimization/statistics)
- School of Public Policy (institutional analysis and project implementation)
In addition, there are formal joint degree programs with City and Regional Planning (established in 1962) and Computer Science (established in 2007). Information on the joint Masters Degree Program in Transportation Systems and City and Regional Planning can be obtained by clicking here. Information on the joint degrees in Transportation Systems and Computer Science can be obtained by clicking here for MS students and here for PhD students.
We also have a unique professional communications program focused on technical writing and oral communication that Dr. Lisa Rosenstein directs. Information on this program can be obtained by clicking here.
