GTI/STC Fellows

Introduction

The Georgia Transportation Institute (GTI) is pleased to announce the availability of graduate fellowships offered in conjunction with the Southeastern Transportation Center (STC). The GTI/STC Fellowship program is intended to enhance the quality of Georgia Tech's transportation-related research programs by improving our ability to attract highly qualified Ph.D. students.

Eligibility

GTI/STC Fellowships are offered annually to a select number of U.S. citizens or permanent residents who intend to pursue doctoral degrees in a transportation-related discipline. These fellowships are supplements to normal assistantship awards. The award provides an additional stipend of $5,500 for 12 months of full-time enrollment. NSF and other national fellowship recipients are eligible for GTI/STC Fellowships, but Georgia Tech President's Fellowship recipients are not so that we can offer additional stipends to as many students as possible. The fellowship is renewable for three additional years (four years total) based on GTI's evaluation of the student's academic performance, research potential, progress towards a doctoral degree, and participation in GTI-sponsored activities. Costs for tuition and fees are the responsibility of the student's campus unit. Either a graduate research or teaching assistantship or another fellowship can be used to provide the student's main stipend. Faculty are encouraged to nominate women and minority students for the GTI/STC Fellowship.

Selection

Applications should be submitted to Dr. Michael D. Meyer, Director of GTI. Selections are based on each student's graduate application, transcripts, biographical sketch, letters of recommendation, standardized test scores, educational goals, and relevance of the anticipated dissertation topic to transportation issues. The attached Applicant Evaluation Summary Sheet must accompany all application materials. A committee composed of faculty and external representatives selected by GTI reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Director. Awards are made during the spring semester for entry during the following fall semester.

GTI Activities

Each recipient of a GTI/STC Fellowship is required to participate in GTI-related activities including seminars, symposia, and strategic planning meetings.
